About this Event

The MBZUAI Single Cell Summer Workshop is a capacity building event focused on supporting the Abu Dhabi region bioinformatics community in getting to know each other and acquiring practical skills for working with single cell omics data. This is a hands on workshop aiming to introduce participants to tools from the scverse  ecosystem of Python single cell data analysis tools, and in particular the scvi-tools framework for probabilistic modelling of single cell omics data.

Participants should bring a laptop.

Friday activities will require familiarity with the command line.

The workshop is free to participate.

Note: If you would like to give a 20 minute participant talk, we still have a few slots available, please indicate when filling in the registration form and contact Eduardo at eduardo.beltrame@mbzuai.ac.ae.

A great opportunity to find out more about MBZUAI.

MBZUAI Provost will present the vision for the university, the rapid expansion to two new schools (Digital Public Health and decision Science), launch of the undergraduate AI program, and share some projections of the expected student and faculty growth plans.

Several MBZUAI Department Chairs will provide more detailed plans for Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Computer Vision, Statistics & Data Science, Machine Learning, Computational Biology, Natural Language Processing, and Robotics.

Objective-Driven AI: Towards Machines that can Learn, Reason, and Plan Yann LeCun

How could machines learn as efficiently as humans and animals? How could machines learn how the world works and acquire common sense? How could machines learn to reason and plan? Current AI architectures..., such as Auto-Regressive Large Language Models fall short. I will propose a modular cognitive architecture that may constitute a path towards answering these questions. The centerpiece of the architecture is a predictive world model that allows the system to predict the consequences of its actions and to plan a sequence of actions that optimize a set of objectives. The objectives include guardrails that guarantee the system's controllability and safety. The world model employs a Hierarchical Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture (H-JEPA) trained with self-supervised learning. The JEPA learns abstract representations of the percepts that are simultaneously maximally informative and maximally predictable.
